Don Bosco, a man of God and God’s man for the young, was born on 16th. August 1815 in Italy. His father, Francis Bosco died when Don Bosco was only 2 years old. His childhood, by no means, was a bed of roses. But God had great things in store for him. After he was ordained a priest on 5th. June 1841, Don Bosco became a frequent visitor to the poorer quarters of the city and the prisons where he met youth serving terms for every type of crime. The plight of poor youth everywhere and their miserable conditions pained his sensitive heart. He then decided that the work of his life would be to redeem youth from danger and misery and to educate them. In the morning of 31st. January 1888 Don Bosco passed away. He was a great visonary and his mission of educating youth still continues. This service to humanity is carried out today in as many as 130 countries by the Salesians of Don Bosco under the guidance of Fr. Pascual Chavez, the 9th successor of Don Bosco.
